Publisher Guidelines
A shared standard for independent journalism.
1. Our Purpose
Bulletin exists to amplify independent, trustworthy journalism.
We partner only with publishers who share our commitment to accuracy, transparency, and editorial independence.
These guidelines define what it means to publish responsibly within the Bulletin network.
2. Core Principles
Accuracy and Verification
- All published content must be fact-checked and supported by credible sources.
- Errors must be corrected promptly and transparently.
- Headlines should reflect content faithfully — no clickbait or manipulation.
Independence
- Publishers must operate free from political, corporate, or governmental influence that could compromise editorial integrity.
- Funding sources and ownership structures must be publicly available.
Transparency
- Bylines, publication dates, and corrections should be visible on all articles.
- Sponsored or partner content must be clearly labelled.
- Outlets must disclose any conflicts of interest relevant to their coverage.
Fairness and Inclusion
- Bulletin welcomes a diversity of perspectives within the bounds of factual accuracy and ethical reporting.
- Hate speech, discrimination, or deliberate misinformation are not tolerated.
- We encourage balanced representation across gender, geography, and voice.
3. Technical Standards
- Publishers must provide content via RSS, API, or CMS plug-in compatible with Bulletin’s aggregation system.
- Feeds should include full text, author attribution, and metadata (category, tags, publication date).
- Media assets (images, video, audio) must comply with copyright and accessibility standards.
4. Accessibility
We encourage all partners to follow WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines — ensuring text readability, alt-text for images, and captioning for multimedia.
Accessible journalism reaches more people, and that’s the point.
5. Ethics and Compliance
All participating publishers must adhere to:
- IMPRESS Standards Code (UK independent press regulator).
- Relevant local or international media codes of practice.
- Bulletin’s own ethical AI and data protection principles.
Violation of these standards may result in suspension or removal from the platform.
6. Revenue and Fairness
- 90% of all net revenue (subscriptions + micro-tips) is redistributed to publishers each month.
- Distribution is based on verified engagement metrics — transparent and auditable.
- Bulletin retains 10% for platform maintenance and development.
7. Partnership and Support
We’re building a community of mutual learning and shared innovation. Bulletin offers:
- Analytics dashboards to track engagement and earnings.
- Access to ethical AI tools for translation, tagging, and discovery.
- Regular workshops and research collaborations on media ethics, accessibility, and sustainability.
8. Joining the Network
If you share our values and meet these standards:
We’ll review your publication for editorial independence, technical readiness, and content quality.
Bulletin is built by and for independent media —
a coalition of trust, transparency, and purpose.
